~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;
they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Casey
5 years ago we adopted the most beautiful, spirited and loyal greyhound (our second)I believe we have ever met. We named him Casey (Race Name-Oh Boy Obama). Casey loved running figure eights in the back yard, evening rubs and long naps. Casey made friends with everyone on his morning walks and a simple rub from a stranger made them instant friends. In March Casey started to drag his back leg and was diagnosed with cancer - the good news was it was caught early. With the removal of his back leg his future was bright - he began to run in the backyard again and mastered the steps on 3 legs like a pro. Unfortunately, no matter what specialized treatment he received from our vet, it was time for him to go to the rainbow bridge in June. We believe he is pain free and running on all 4 legs once again.
We miss him dearly and know he is happy and in good company. We love you Casey boy!
Roxy Hart (Judith)
With a heavy heart we had to give our Roxy a ton of love and let her go. Unfortunately, she had cancer, which progressed much more quickly than we could have expected. We greatly miss our little old lady, so does her adopted brother Vinny (RT Nighthawk). She was a sweet, gentle girl and definitely ran the roost. We know she is watching down on us pain free and with lots of cookies, I'm sure.
See you again, good girl.
Dawn, Dan, and Vinny
Ruby 08/10/04-12/03/15
Through tears I had to let my "Drama Queen" Ruby run to the Bridge. She was keen on small dogs & a handful but everyone knew her from the picnics,craft shows, M&G's & Wed nite greyhound walks. Ruby suffered from "selective hearing" and was a real pip & stubborn, but we loved her for 9 yrs. Even as the cancer was getting worse & the meds weren't helping she still tried to run with her brother Winston. She would come to me & I would pet & rub her leg & scratch her Radar ears. She was a trooper right to the end & when she started dragging her foot I decided to let her go on her terms & with dignity.
Beware all the small dogs at the Bridge because she's chasing you right now. RIP my sweet girl with the chicken feet.
You will always have a place in our hearts. Mary Lou, Carl & Winston
Tosha (Tonk)
I adopted Tosha (Tonk) when she was just 18 months old. She was a spooky dog and so scared of everyone. I was told that she never raced because they couldn't even get her in the gate she was so scared. It time I met her she was shaking so bad I knew she needed me. She was in foster care and it seemed like no one wanted such a spooky dog. I had 2 greys before and I thought I could help her. Took a little time to earn her trust and then her great personality came to surface.
And in time she got better but never got over totally her spooky-ness. She truly loved her treats and her toys. she played a lot with her toys but never torn them up. In fact her favorite toy which my little 5 yr old nephew bought her at a yard sale within the first year of me getting her she still has to this day. In the one pic of her at the top of the stairs is her waiting for me to come up to go to bed. When it was time she would run up the stairs and wait for me. The snow pic is a good example of her playing in the snow and shows what great stride she had when running in the snow.
But time got the best of her and her end was quick. Tosha was 12 yrs old and gave me a best friend for all those years. I will miss her so much! She truly was my family and I love her with all my heart. When the time came to take her to the bridge I was with her to the end. The last thing she saw was me telling her how much I love her. Good bye my sweet angel. Daddy will always love you.
Lucy (Disco Leader)
I met Lucy (racing name Disco Leader) at a Greyhound Friends picnic in September 2005. In the beginning, she had severe separation anxiety and, to help ease it, I got a second greyhound of course, little brother Linus (racing name Best of the Best). Lucy was a sweet, gentle, unassuming girl. She insisted only on belly rubs, pushing you with her paw if you dared stopped petting her. She loved peanuts and peanut butter, soft beds, greyhound hugs, and long walks, not to travel far but just to be outside and sniff the wind. I am grateful for 11 years of her company and sweet friendship. At 13, her back legs couldn't hold her anymore and we said goodbye on Thursday. Lucy you will always be in our hearts.
