~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;
they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Jet Girl Schilling 1997-2007
Jet, a beautiful, tiny, black girl came to us on February 17, 2000. She was a "second chance girl". She was afraid to come home with us; she hid in her foster parent's bathroom. But, she soon settled in, and showed herself to be affectionate, and very smart. Of course, she was very beautiful! She clevery attached herself to my husband, as he was home, and I work. She welcomed the addtion of Celia, another greygirl, and Lucky, an Irvington boy. She travelled with us to Dewey six times, and twice to Gettysburg. She loved to ride in the car, or in the boat to go anywhere. She really enjoyed her walks; she just loved being with her family. She especially enjoyed snoozing on her dog cot next to her brother and sister in the tent in her dog pen. She was particulary fond of Greyhound picnics, and trips to the dog parks.
She had cancer, and we did not know it until the last day of her life. She never cried, or made any trouble for us, yet, she was so very ill. Our hearts are broken, and we will miss her forever. Run free, little girl, and we hope to see you again some day.
Love,
Keith and Georgia (Mom and Dad), Celia, Lucky, Polly, Doodle
Lucky (Neddick)
Lucky (Neddick) January 2005 - July 2007. He enjoyed three weeks of love, soft beds, and a forever home. We will miss him dearly, he was a sweet boy.
Stella Spameni
Stella Spameni (formerly Get Rich Quick) 12/94 - 4/12/07
We adopted Stella through Greyhound Friends of NJ, Barbara Wickland in January of 1996. Stella was a sweet, loving little girl who gave us eleven years of pure love and affection. She was the biggest couch potato, but would also play like a puppy throwing stuffed up animals up in the air until the end of her life. She pranced around and was the queen of her castle. Bart, her chow chow life mate, was her king and is mourning her death waiting for her to come upstairs to go to bed. Stella was wonderful with children and other animals.
With a tearful goodbye — we say — till we meet again old friend. To anyone considering adopting a greyhound and want a sweet, loyal companion, please please do so! They are sweet loving dogs and man’s and woman’s best friend! We will miss you Stella!
Tess
Tess- November 1995-April 2007
We adopted Tess before we had our two boys and she was truly a member of the family. I remember when we first got her I took her for a walk down to the beach where we live. While walking a man came up to us and said to her "you made it girl". I always remembered that. Last week when we had to put her to sleep I have never seen such dignity and grace through such anguish. The 8 1/2 years we had her were amazing and there is now a empty feeling in the house. We were blessed to have had her and while she did "make it" she also made our lives that much better. She will be missed.
Love Jason, Jennifer, Max and Alex
Timber
Timber - October 1995 — February 20, 2007
We had almost 8 great years with Timber. Can’t believe it’s been so long since meeting Barbara Wicklund at the 98 rest stop on the Parkway to pick him up. He had our “non-greyt” Springer mix puppy to teach him how to be a dog, howling with the fire sirens and the like, although he never figured out how to retrieve… his favorite game was playing keep away with an old kick ball, like we were ever going to be able to catch a greyhound! Never lost a couch with him, he was strictly a ground dweller, we always had to heave-ho him into our truck, as he had no interest in jumping onto or into anything. Diagnosed with congestive heart failure in December, thanks to the thoroughness and care of our vet, Dr. Mark Newkirk, Timber was able to have a couple more months of mostly good days with us. He was loved a lot and is greatly missed.
