~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;
they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Dream
Dream
May 19, 1999 - July 25, 2008
Dream came to us in April of 2001. We give our sincere thanks to Rose Comerford for letting us adopt him. Rose always told everyone that "Dream was the only greyhound I ever gave up for adoption". We know he holds a special place in her heart. He will always hold a special place in our hearts too. Dream was the first greyhound we ever adopted and even with his little quirks and extreme shyness, he was always gentle and loving. In May 2007 he suffered a seizure and a stroke, but recovered. Recently, he showed signs of severe illness and we didn't want him to suffer any pain. On July 25th, we made the heartbreaking decision to let him go peacefully. He will be missed by our family and his brother, Coby, and sister, Penny. Sweet Dreams.
Pat C Lawgiver
This handsome boy, who went by the call name of "Jake", left us too early due to illness. Jake had been returned to GFNJ as he was described as anxious and did not fit into the house. Jake ended up fitting into his foster home just fine, and we are grateful to his foster parents for giving him a loving, stable home where his goodness could be appreciated.
Gracie Lewis
Gracie Lewis
June 1996 — April 2008
Gracie came into our lives as a foster very shortly after we adopted our first greyhound. At the time she was a beautiful 10 year old brindle that had this look in her eyes that touched your soul. We knew immediately we were going to fail fostering and on December 3rd 2006 we officially adopted her.
Gracie loved just being out in “her” backyard, she would play with toys, run laps around the pool or would simply hang out with us. Whenever she saw or heard her leash she would jump up and down and snap at the air in pure excitement. When on a walk she would point her ears straight up to hear everything that was going on around her. She loved the couch and our bed and we gladly gave it up for her even though there were two memory foam beds in the same room.
Gracie touched our hearts in the short period of time she was with us and we are blessed to have had her in our lives. She made us realize that the time we have is precious and we should enjoy it every chance we get.
The house feels empty and is not the same with you gone.
We will always love you our sweet G Girl!
Pat Tee Baker
Baker (Pat Tee Baker) came to me initally as my first foster dog after a period of adoption that did not work out. I cried the day he was adopted for the second time because he fit so well into our home with my female greyhound and rottie mix. After only a week, his new family decided to return him. Immediately I adopted him as my own, I could not let him go again. We thought he was depressed since he would not leave his bed or eat for the first week. He eventually came around, but then I noticed he was also limping. The only thing that brought him joy was meeting new people. So at the next greyhound picnic he was registered as a therapy dog. He never got the chance to visit anyone, but he brought our family more happiness than one could expect. The vet finally confirmed the presence of an auto immune disease that left him in crippling pain every day and night. After only 6 months of having his wonderful company, he no longer responded to pain medication or antibiotics. I was faced with the hardest decision of my life, but it was in his best interest. Baker is now free from pain. He was the most gentle and loving greyhound an owner could ask for. We will remember his beautiful, brown eyes and extra long nose forever.
March 2005 - June 2008.
Darby Scarpone
Our Beloved Darby Scarpone
Darby "meaning Freedom" (aka Rosegreen Lady)
January 13, 2002 — April 28, 2008
Adopted: March 25, 2006
Darby was helped over the Rainbow Bridge on April 28, 2008. She became very ill with Evans Syndrome (AIHA & ITP), she was dignosed less than a month ago. She seemed to be getting better on the prednisone/imuran combination and then it stopped working. We started a new medication and prayed. The next day was a great day...she finally ate like before she was sick (we thought we were getting out of the woods), but it only lasted a day. The next day she wouldn't eat, she lost use of her hind legs and then while picking her up to go upstairs to bed...she cried so bad. She now has pain, and there was nothing I could do...it knew it was time to let her go so she would be free of pain...and it killed me. This was the hardest thing for me to do!!! It hurt so bad that my baby was unable to survive this disease. I miss you so much my baby!!!
Darby was perfect addition to our family, we had just lost our Holly (our 1st grey) to a rare cancer and Mindy our other grey was becoming sick from losing Holly . Darby loved life and affection. You had so much energy and you would never know that you had a bad leg (except those nasty stairs). It was so funny how you would shoot across the entire house if you heard one of your sisters getting attention...you just shoved you head right inbetween. I will miss how all of you were sleeping on the bed all intertwined leaving very little room for me (which was okay because my babies come first). It has been extremely quiet at home without all of your vocals...I miss hearing you welcome me home from work! It is just so quiet now... I miss how you had to always lay on top of me with your paws almost around my neck when you went to bed (even belting me in the face many times with those mits of yours). You just couldn't show me enough love..and I love you just as much! We love you soooooo much Darby and wish we had more time with you, but you are now out of pain and Holly will meet you at the Rainbow Bridge to guide you. You and Holly will have a blast together and I will see you again when it is time. I love you Darby and you will forever be in my heart!!!!
Mama, Daddy, Miranda, Grandma, Benjamin, Mindy, Star, Chloe, and Archie
