~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;
they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Kobi "Kobster 1997 - 2006
Kobi came into my life in July of 1999. He had to be pulled from his crate and I knew instantly he was the one who needed me. He gave me the greyhound "hug" and I was hooked.
He was a big brindle boy with the kindest heart and the gentlest manner, but he was afraid of the wind. I'm positive he enjoyed his life with us. He also enjoyed the caramel candy he got every night.
In August of 2006 when he was diagnosed with cancer I was just devastated and cried very day. I would pet him every night and hope that the lumps in his neck would shrink and that the tumor on his tongue would disappear but never did.
He lost his fight and left me holding him tightly and telling him that it was "OK" as I covered him with his favorite blanket. Kobi you will never be forgotten for you were my heart dog.
Till we meet again wait for us at the Bridge.... Sadly missed by Mary Lou and Carl
Zia “ZeeZee”
Zia “ZeeZee” (pictured with her older sister, Magic)
April 1997 – July 30th, 2009
Zia was adopted for my 13th birthday, but shortly after adopting her we realized she was and would always be my dad’s dog. Zee Zee, as we called her, was Daddy’s Little Girl and would follow him everywhere. One of the only things she actually learned as a command was “Where’s Daddy?” and “Go find him!” Zia loved ear rubs, neck scratches, pats and belly rubs, but most of all she enjoyed holding paws with my father. It was quite a spectacle to see them together; my dad might be on an important conference call with Malaysia, but he still leaned back in his chair, hand extended down so he could hold Zia’s paw. When he would let go, Zee Zee would bat the air until it was held again.
Like most greys, Zee Zee was spoiled; she would not touch her food unless there was a dollop of rice pudding on top or some other offering besides her kibble. In fact, Zia was the only member of our family to actually eat rice pudding.
To us, Zia was many things: a 5th cat, a snow bunny, a comforting wet nose, a wannabe lap dog, and the occasional reindeer, but most of all she was our beloved baby.
After 12 years – 9 of which were spent in lazy retirement, Zia left us very suddenly when we learned she had laryngeal paralysis. Zia has left her paw-print on our hearts and we will never forget her or ever stop loving her. We love you Zia and will adopt a little brother and sister in your memory. You have some big paws to fill.
Love, Kristie, Mommy, Daddy, and the kitty siblings: Magic, Willow, Tucker and Raku.
WOODY HOLLY – 2/03 - 8/09
WOODY HOLLY (STATIC SHOCK) – FEBRUARY 2003 TO AUGUST 23, 2009
After adopting six Greys over the past several years, we decided to help out Greyhound Friends and foster in July of 2008. Twenty fosters later, Woody came into our lives in December of 2008. John wanted to adopt him shortly after he came to us but I was against it as we agreed not to adopt any of our fosters. Woody attended one Open House with our other foster at the new kennel in February 2009 but he wasn’t interested in meeting new people; he walked around with his tail between his legs and his head down. Potential adopters inquired about him that day but John told them that Woody wasn’t available. John had already informed Greyhound Friends that Woody had found his forever home with us; however, he kept it a secret from me for a couple of weeks. It was at that time that I received a greeting card from Woody (with his official dog license from the town) telling me how happy he was at our house and that daddy had officially adopted him!
Woody was a sweet and gentle boy; a true gentleman. He loved to run and he used the house as his racetrack; running from room to room because it was too cold to run outside. At first, we didn’t know what he was doing and then came to realized that he was getting his daily laps in! As warmer weather came, he did his daily laps in our backyard. He would bark when he wanted to go outside and run and would have “conversations” with us when he wanted a treat.
Woody was only with us for nine short months, but we loved him dearly and we know that he loved us back. You could see how happy he was in the way he walked; he had a bounce to his step when he was at his happiest!
In early July 2009, he started to yelp every time he moved his neck. We took him to the vet and he was put on anti-inflammatories but he didn’t improve. A neurologist suggested we have an MRI done. On July 23, 2009, Woody was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor in his spine. We searched for a treatment that would give him more time with us but it wasn’t meant to be; he was put to rest only one month later on August 23, 2009.
Woody; we will never forget you – you will live on forever in our hearts.
Nitrah (Nitro Sister) 3/1/99-6/6/09
Nitrah (Nitro Sister) 3/1/99-6/7/09
On June 6, 2009, our beloved Nitrah passed away at her residence after a 15 month battle with lymphoma. Nitrah was born March 1, 1999, to My Rooster and Nitro Fiesty. When she was four and a half, Nitrah was adopted into her forever home thanks to Greyhound Friends of NJ. Nitrah spent the remainder of her retired life lounging. She would travel from bed to bed and you could always find her cuddling up with the blankets and pillows. A bed made up to Nitrah was not an inviting bed. She would paw at the sheets and pillows until her liking. You would also always find her wherever there was sunlight. Nitrah loved to bask in the sun, especially in Grandma’s picture window or on Mommy and Daddy’s deck. Although Nitrah loved to relax, she also had a feisty side, hence her birth mother’s name. She would always stick up for herself and for her little brother, Remington. Nitrah may be gone, but she will never be forgotten. Nitrah lived her life as a princess and she will now live on in all of our hearts as an angel.
Red Cappuccio
Red Cappuccio-June 29, 1996-June 25, 2009
I was blessed with and by Red for almost 10 years. Red came into my life in 1999. I am sure that everyone can identify with going to a greyhound picnic and getting another dog. That is how I got my beloved Red. Red was named so because of his red color. You know, sometimes when we went for walks the deer would think he was a deer. Red was a very quiet greyhound, he was more of a follower that a leader. Boy, he sure loved the girls!!! Those ears would stand up straight and his chest would puff out...what a Romeo he was!!! Red very rarely barked and he could not howl like my other greys could. The children in the neighborhood loved Red because he was so gentle with them, they would always hug and kiss him (and he didn't mind) Red would have been 13 yrs. old on 6/29/09. Red slowed down so much as he aged, but he always loved a milkbone and a chew. Red had been sick for about 6 months...in that time he was to the Vet numerous times and put on medication, at first it worked but then it stopped. I finally made the decision to let him go because in my heart I knew he was not getting any better, he would not eat anymore either. We all know how hard it it to let them go!
So run my beloved Red, run with JJ, Jack, Gary and Phil on Rainbow Bridge...You are all together again, and always remember that Mama will always love you! You are gone from this earth, but nothing can separate our love!
Love, Mama, Ellen, Frank & Yolanda and also (Ray)
