~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;
they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Cheyenne (Dewey WildnFree)
Cheyenne
(Dewey WildnFree)
10/1/00 – 1/30/11
All greyhounds are sweet, but Cheyenne was pure sugar. She was a gentle spirit who loved everyone she met. She was my first greyhound and because of her, I immediately adopted my second grey just two months later. Everything about her was a perfect lady.
We miss you so much baby girl. My heart has a huge piece missing because it is now with you. Your spirit will never leave me. We love you so much, Chey-Chey girl. Thank you for sharing your life with us.
He was a gift from God.
He has now passed from my hands into God's.
GRAYCN 6/2000 to 12/29/2010
It is with a heavy heart that I am sending you this e-mail. We had to let GRAYCN go @ 1:10 am this morning, with the help of Animerge.
Graycn had 4 hours of massive seizures last night and we could not bear to see her suffer, so we let her go to " Rainbow Bridge ". A more beautiful or well behaved greyhound wiould be hard to find, she was my BABY.
I adopted Gracyn in the spring of 2002 and I knew from the start she was a special girl. I never needed an alarm clock, Graycn would nudge me to get up and take our morning walks, when I pulled into the garage, Graycn would be at the door to greet me. I could go on for hours and talk about my BABY girl " GRAYCN., but I am sure all greyhound lovers have similar stories to share.
All I can say is Graycn lit up my life, I will miss her and never forget her, maybe after a period of mourning for my baby girl I may want to adopt another greyhound.
Shep
We had to let our handsome boy “Shep” go on Dec 17, 2010. He was 11.7 -Although we were hoping he would live to see 12, we know he is in a better place. We did everything we could but age just was not on our side. Shep was my first dog. My first greyhound! …..My BABY. ….
I adopted Shep when he just turned 7. Shep was attached to me from day one. This boy was my best friend and a true momma’s boy. There was nothing this big guy did wrong. Nothing! He made all our days brighter and the love I felt for him will be irreplaceable. I never knew the impact this guy would make on my life. We did everything together. He was so gentle and loving towards all the 14 GFNJ fosters that entered our lives in the past 3 years. Shep, I will miss you so, so much and I will think of you everyday.
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.
PING
Dear family and friends,
To start I apologize for the email but the words that I am going to write are still hard to hear --- it is with a heavy heart that we are writing to tell you that Ping has passed. As you all know he was truly a family member and our first baby. Early Thursday morning he woke us in distress and we rushed him to Red Bank Vet Hospital which is an amazing emergency hospital in our area. It was determined that his abdomen was filling with fluid but the source was unknown. Upon surgery they determined that his small intestine had ruptured and that his liver and spleen were full of small masses. The spleen was removed, as was part of his intestine. He made it through surgery really well and looked to be on the mend. Unfortunately, Saturday morning he took a turn for the worse and his abdomen became septic. Stephen and I spent a lot of time with him before he passed and were able to thank him for all the joy he brought to us and our friends and family. We found out today that the masses were in fact a very aggressive cancer called histoiocytic sarcoma.
In addition to being our dear companion and friend, Ping was an amazing greyhound ambassador. We did countless greyhound meet and greets, both formally and informally -- the informal ones along the Manasquan inlet were always our favorite. Ping would spend 10 minutes leaning on a stranger's leg getting lots of lovin' while I would answer questions about these amazing dogs who need homes. As a result, we know of 4 greyhounds who are in their forever homes and hopefully there are many more out there. He also was a heartwarming conduit between my grandmother and I. Once her memory was ravenged from Alzheimer's and she could no longer recognize me, she remembered Ping as "her son's dog". Well that was close enough for us and allowed us to visit and talk about Ping. Finally, and most importantly to me, he nuzzled his way into Stephen's heart and made him into a dog lover. Thank you Pinger for all that you have done. Many people would congratulate us on "rescuing him" but, in all sincerity, he rescued us. You will be missed dude!
And for all you dog owners -- please give your pups an big hug and an extra long walk today in honor of Ping!
Love, Melissa
