~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;
they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
IDA (DRINKING ON A FAKE I.D.)
IDA (DRINKING ON A FAKE I.D.)-April 28, 1998 to December 17, 2011
On December 17, 2011, we said a tearful goodbye to Ida, our beautiful brindle girl. After a valiant fight with congestive heart disease she peacefully passed away. We miss her but her memory will be with us always.
We fell in love with Ida from the minute we met her at a GFNJ fair in May 2005 in Bridgewater. Our three children had never seen a striped dog before, and Ida’s beautiful red brindle coat fascinated them. When they approached she gently stood up, sniffed them and gave kisses. But it was her lovely dark brown eyes (that she inherited from her grandfather, the fabulous Dutch Bahama) that captivated us all. We got to know her a bit better that day, took her for a walk around the park and knew then and there that Ida was going to become part of our family. She was so sweet, and moved with the style and grace of the magnificent athlete she was. There was no way that we could leave the greyhound fair without her. We’re certain that when she enthusiastically leaped into the back of our car, Ida knew she was heading for her forever home.
We later learned that Ida was a champion racer, with more than 30 victories to her credit. She was also a brood. These things made her life hard, but did not diminish her sweetness one bit. Beneath her rippling muscles and fine red brindle coat beat a heart of gold.
In our house Ida was the queen. She was full of personality, generous with her affection and a loyal and constant companion who accompanied us on countless walks and hikes. We’ll never forget how she strummed the guitar with her long lovely tail, how she would curl up and snuggle with us and how her “super ears” would stand at attention to alert us to something interesting that had entered our midst. One of her favorite places was the shore, where we would take her for long walks on the beach. And she was a true greyhound ambassador; we could never walk her without someone asking what breed she was and commenting on her beauty.
Ida, we love you. Thank you for being part of our lives. You gave us limitless joy and unconditional love. We will never forget you and we’ll see you again at the Rainbow Bridge.
"Press" AKA USS Impressive
"Press" AKA USS Impressive (2002-2011)
Our true friend of five years. He was a gentle giant who shared his "Forever Home" with us for too brief a time. We are grateful that he will now be able to once again run free.
Thank you Press...you will be missed.
With Much Love,
Jim, MaryAnn & Justin
“Lexy” 9/96 – 7/5/11
Sunshine Lorraine / Lexus, a/k/a “Lexy” 9/96 – 7/5/11
Today is a very sad day for us, as we had to say goodbye to our Lexy Love. Lexy came to us just before Thanksgiving in 2007 along with her housemate, Cookie. Both were bounce backs to GFNJ and were in poor health. In fact, Lexy had already lost most of her muscle mass in her hind legs, and back then we thought it only a matter of time before this poor girl wouldn’t be able to stand.
Lexy was in failing health in December, but with lots of love, attention, and care with monitored medication, we were blessed to have her with us for 6 additional months with a good quality of life. She insisted on going for brief walks up through the middle of this weekend with her pack. There was no leaving her behind, nor going it alone.
We’ve never seen such heart and spirit in a senior such as her, which is why we affectionately called her Lexy Love. She loved people, kids, her hound housemates and other dogs of any breed and size. She’d stomp and chomp her teeth for biscuits, and had a unique dance of her own when she wanted something, and a hobby-horse type of run when an intruding rabbit or bird was in the yard or when her pack initiated a running game of tag. There was no ignoring this endearing skinny girl with a heart of gold, and she ruled the roost here at home.
Lexy's passing leaves us with a broken heart, but it's been such a rewarding journey since she came to us. I say to everyone..... consider adopting a senior. Your life will be enriched in ways you'll never know.
