~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;
they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Daphne..formerly "Kelso's Teaser"
Daphne - August 11, 2000 to May 9, 2012
Daphne came into my life in 2003. She was a mild mannered, wonderful, "gentle spirit". She made my life beautiful, and eased my burden when life was difficult. She made good times even better simply by her presence in my life. The whole family loved and adored her. We will be lost without her. Wait for me, sweet girl. I will see you again. I love you, and thank you for being my one true friend.
Kelso's Zodiak
Kelso's Zodiak August 1, 2000-May 2, 2012
Zodiak was adopted by our family when he was four years old. He had lived with another family initially, but they weren't able to keep him. A letter from the family accompanied him when we brought him home. "We are of heavy and sad heart to have to give Zodiak Hill back", it read. "We hope he will have a good and loving home. He does several weird things that may seem odd at first. First thing he loves to rub against you with his snout. It seems like he has an itch and he does this rather obsessively but it is a sign of affection. Secondly he eats food like its his last meal we have tried to slow him down but to no avail." The note was a touching tribute to the wonderfully complex dog with whom we had the great privilege to spend seven years with. He did indeed rub his nose on your finest black jacket. But his appetite seemed to have slowed down over the years. He knew the word "treat" and would badger you to no end if you failed to reward his good behavior. He was born in Seabrook Greyhound Park, New Hampshire. His track record was not glamourous. It was easy to see that our Brindle guy loved to be petted by admirers, and loved to smell the air around him far more than the life of competitive racing. Our family loves to travel. Zodiak seemed to like it as well. In our family van we crossed the country twice, and visited Canada and even Juarez, Mexico.Astonished looks accompanied us as we walked across the US/Mexico border there. On one trip we saw a road sign that said "Greyhound Track" and we just couldn't resist. It turned out to be Seabrook and we paused to decide whether taking him back to his birthplace would be truamatic for our sensitive fellow. We pulled in slowly, cautiously, snow falling in huge flakes on our windshield. Zodie seemed enthralled, not terrified, of the place to our great surprise. We felt comfort knowing that his early years had most likely been spent in a healthy enviornment. When it was time to leave, he stood still, stubbornly refusing to budge. Zodie had a difficult time with climbing stairs during the first year or so that he lived with us. Whenever we stayed at a hotel we had to ask for the ground floor of the building. When this wasn't possible, we could be seen carrying three children, five bags and one Greyhound into the place, as we checked in for the night. We also camped with him. He saw a Jack Rabbit up close, and walked along the trails in Moab. He traveled on Route 80 West, on one trip, from it's beginning in San Francisco to our exit near Rockaway, NJ. We were lucky to spend seven years with our dog, Zodiak. Zodie died yesterday, at home, surrounded by his loving family. We are of heavy and sad heart to give Zodiak back. We will never be the same.
VELCRO THUNDER
In Memory of Velcro Thunder
Thunder, was born on 12/17/1996, and when he was two years old we adopted him, we knew from day one this was the dog for us. He was fun to be around and love us very much
Thunder passed away on 3/6/2012 he was 15 years old, he was a beloved pet, and a member of our family, he was our first dog. For me it was hard to see him go because I am the youngest of the family, but I know he is no longer suffering and will be looking down on me.
We miss him very much. Thunder was not just any dog, he was my brother.
Love always Jaclyn Kosh
DASHER
In Memory of Dasher
He arrived at our home in July of 2002. His name was Epard Will. Within a couple of days he had transformed into our Dasher. We were longtime dog owners, but had no experience with greyhounds. Dasher quickly took us in hand and showed us the way.
We started out crating him. Within days he quietly removed a pair of eyeglasses from a table, took them to his crate and gently laid them down as if to say, You don’t need to crate me. I’m a kind and gentle soul and will never harm anything or anyone. Needless to say, he was never crated again.
Dasher took over our home and our hearts. He loved his soft beds; he had one in the family room and one in our bedroom. He looked handsome in his winter coat, striking in his fleece lined raincoat and cuddly in his striped pajamas. He loved nothing more than snuggling down into one of his beds, covered by a warm fleece blanket. All it would take was a quick call from either of us, and up his head would pop with his goofy smile plastered all over his face. Without fail, he made us smile.
Dasher was always ready for a walk, a ride in the car, or dinner. Inevitably, people would approach us while we were walking and ask about greyhounds in general and Dasher in particular. He was especially happy if a child approached him. He seemed to sense when a child was apprehensive about coming near him and took care to be extra gentle.
We lost Dasher on February 18, 2012, just three months shy of his 14th birthday. We were privileged to be his family for nearly 10 years and we miss him dearly.
CLEO June, 1998 - February 5, 2012
Cleo was our beloved friend and family member for almost 11-1/2 years after we adopted her in October of 2000 from Greyhound Friends West. She was our first greyhound and lived to the ripe old age of 13 years and 7 months. She passed peacefully and quietly at home with dignity which was the same way she had always lived her life. Cleo lived for pets, ear scratches and rides in the car. She was the most gentle, kind and caring animal and so obedient and easy to be with and care for. Even in passing, it seemed she wanted to make it easy for us by going quickly and not lingering or leaving us with any hard decisions to make. She was a registered therapy dog. Over the years, more than once, someone would say they didn’t like dogs or a child would say they were afraid of dogs, but somehow Cleo won them over to where they would say Cleo was the only dog I ever met that I liked or Cleo was the only dog I never have been afraid of.
We will always remember the joy and happiness she brought to us and then to our daughter, Torrie, who was born 2 years after we rescued Cleo and who grew to love Cleo as much as we did. Cleo will be terrribly missed and always remembered in our thoughts and hearts.
