~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;
they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
DiEugenio Greyhounds
Sparkie, FiFi, Macho (pictured) and Trooper
We started our love affair with greyhounds in 2000 when we met them at a Saturday morning outing a Pet Smart. We adopted our first in 2002, Sparkie Bytar. He was 4 when he came to us and was a large fawn. In our area mistaking him for a deer would have been easy so we kept him very close. We moved to a bigger home in 2004 and soon after adopted a very alpha female named FiFi. She ruled the roost at her very feminine 65 lbs. Sparkie was diagnosed with osteosarcoma which had metastasized to his lungs. FiFi became his nurse and caretaker. She did not leave his side and made sure the rest of us knew when he needed something. Sparkie left us 3 weeks before Christmas which made it a very sad one. FiFi soon feeling separation anxiety began chewing on the rungs of the chairs and anything else she could. We quickly got on the website to find her a sibling. We placed a request for a choice and received a call to take a large male who was about to graduate from the prison program. We said sure. Macho arrived at 80 lbs missing all but 6 inches of his tail. Happy tail had been to blame. FiFi quickly put him in his place, he didn't seem to mind. I have always wanted a blue and received a call 2 months after Macho arrived that a Blue was available.Of course we said sure. B.C. Trooper Blue arrived with the diagnosis of Lupus. Sloughing nose and ears, and enrmous amount of scar tissue on his pads but nonetheless beautiful. The three of them were easier to raise than my human children and loved just as much. In 2012, fighting with her brothers til the end, FiFi succumbed to renal failure at the age of 10. The boys truly missed her. In the spring of 2014 Trooper, now 10, began to lose weight quickly and was suffering as FiFi did from advanced renal disease. He was in alot of pain and was put down in July. Macho began to become very depressed about the loss of his sibling and became lethargic. Within two weeks he was diagnosed with hookworm. Despite treatment he began to lose weight and became very ill. He was rushed on a Sunday to the emergency department. He was put down that day. These dogs have been my heart for over 12 years and after a bit of healing I will adopt again. They are the most graceful, regal and loveable animals. Their beautiful faces suck you in and their personalities steal your heart. My furry children are together again and peace to all of them.
Gina and Isis Barrett
JP's Prime Danger came to live with us one week after we lost our first greyhound Gina Shannon to bone cancer. Gina was a survivor and continued to volunteer as a therapy dog even after she lost her left rear leg. "Danger" was not dangerous at all and didn't really respond to her name. One day we were walking and I was singing the song Isis and her ears perked up so we called her Isis. She was as sweet and gentle as Gina and only 2 when we adopted her.
Bear is a sheltie rescue that came to us in October 2010 at 15 years old. He outlived his family and did not get along with any other dogs. He was in a kill shelter when he was rescued. It took a month of working with him before he and Isis could be together safely and soon they were fast friends. Everyone loved Isis, even the unlovable Bear who is lame now and cannot get up on his own until he sees another dog and the adrenaline starts flowing.
In April of 2014, just before her 10th birthday, Isis started to exhibit strange symptoms that ultimately was diagnosed as lymphoma of the central nervous system. We miss her terribly and know she loves playing with Gina at the rainbow bridge.
Elisha (Lisha) Penny
Elisha (Lisha) Penny June 2003-July 2, 2014
Elisha passed away last night after a short battle with cancer. It was discovered a little over 4 weeks ago and had already spread to all of her organs. We took a 3 hour car ride (her favorite thing) last weekend to say goodbye to Heather's parents and sister, some of her favorite people in the world. We think she held on to say goodbye because 24 hours after we got home she took a turn for the worse and was put to sleep in our home on her favorite sofa last night. She was surrounded by the people and the puppy friend she loved most.
Lisha was an amazing creature. We adopted her at the age of 4 and all those years at the racetrack had taken their toll making her a very anxious girl. It took about 6 months for Lisha to stay on the sofa if one of us sat down on the other end. It took 2 years for her to lay her head on us. Elisha made us work for her love and that makes us cherish it all the more. We feel very privileged to have been recipients of that love and we are already looking forward to seeing her in heaven someday.
Shadow, Jasper & Joslyn
The Trio - A Class Act
My first 3 greys have a very special place in my heart. They were an introduction to a gentle, loving and patient breed. I adopted them all at 3 years of age.
In the pictures left to right they are - Shadow, Jasper & Joslyn.
Shadow - once trained for home life, he was quick to train the other two. I didn't realize how much he did in subtle ways to make life run smoother. Shadow excelled in everything he did. He was my right hand man. (August 2, 1998 - January 4, 2011, lived to 12-1/2 years old.) Born a Greyhound - Died a Gentleman.
Joslyn - a petite Greyhound, the smallest I have ever seen. She was very feminine and oh so sweet. (July 31, 2001 - January 2, 2012, lived to 10-1/2 years old.) Always a Lady.
Jasper - was also eager to please, with such a funny personality. His antics made us laugh. He was our character. (June 21, 1999 - January 3, 2014, lived to 14-1/2 years old.) Such a sweet little boy.
I could write a book about them, they filled my life with so much love. Being true to their breed, they have paved the way for more Greyhounds in my life. What a fine job they have done. I will keep them close in my heart forever.
Judy Olsen
Cmon Davonti
It is with extreme sadness that I announce the passing of Cmon Davanti. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma this past summer and eventually was in too much pain to enjoy a good quality of life.
Despite only having Davanti for a year, she touched our lives in a way I thought impossible. She was the kindest, goofiest and most loving animal I have ever known.
We will forever be Greyhound owners thanks to our pretty girl. In the near future we plan on adopting two Greyhounds that are in need of a forever home.
Jeff & Julie Johnson
Rest In Peace, Davanti. We love you with all of our hearts.
