Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.

There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;

those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,

just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;

they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.

His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.

Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,

you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.

The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,

and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Koko

This was our wonderful “Koko” who was stricken with cancer and left us on 20 June. She found us at one of your “meet and greets” in Tabernacle, NJ. We were looking for a harder to place black greyhound, but Koko came up and leaned on me and followed me all over the place. Ironically, I had a sister, who had passed away in 1996. Her name was Karen, but everyone, throughout her life, called her Keby. Once I found out her name, I knew we were meant for each other.

They say God works in mysterious ways, and I believe Koko was sent to us on purpose. We got her in 2010. We got hit with Sandy in 2012. My husband nearly lost his life due to that storm. Because of his injuries, he was laid off from work. Koko stayed with Joe through all the days and nights and because he was falling into a deep depression, I forced him to start doing things with Koko. He slowly ended up feeling as if he had something to and that was to go out with Koko for walks, and her favorite, car rides.

Joe finally found a job just about two weeks ago. Just about the time we found out about Koko’s cancer. She really deteriorated quickly. I have to believe, and I know this is crazy, that perhaps she was not meant to be alone during the day. She needed a constant companion who would take her on walks and interact with her. This is my reasoning and it helps me deal with the pain of letting her go.

She will be so missed. We loved her and we are sure she loved us, too.

Denim

Just a month after losing our Big Al, we have lost our Denim. Our crazy blue boy, "Dammit Denim" his official nickname. That nose of his could always cause trouble. He loved the bay, feared the ocean waves, shared his couch with you (only if you continually stroked him) and made us very happy. We are so grateful to have enjoyed his company. As with all the others before, we loved him so very much. We send him off with another piece of our hearts to join the others we have loved.

Freeda

On March 4, 2012 I found the love of my life. Unfortunately I lost her on April 25, 2015. Her name was Freeda (Cheap But Not Free). It took me all of 15 seconds as I took her for a walk around the compound to fall in love with this amazing creature. I knew she rescued me more than I did her. I sat with her in the back of my brother's car and started to pet her as she curled up next to me. She put her head in my lap and fell asleep. We stayed that way for the next three hours. She adapted to our home immediately. She was very friendly to everyone she met. She loved people and would get excited to see someone coming towards her on one of her many walks. she thought everyone on the planet was here to play with her. She loved long walks on the beach and digging in the sand. She liked to walk along the shore and would run and bark at the waves as they rose up to her paws. She equally enjoyed rolling around and digging int he snow. She seemed to prefer the cold over the heat. Everyone who met her remarked on her physical beauty as well as her sweet temperament and how happy she was. She was the sweetest, gentlest and most intelligent dog I have ever known. She was pure joy and I will never ever forget the love she gave to me. I am lost without her but grateful for the most extraordinary three years of life we shared.

Big Al

We lost Big Al on Saturday. He was 13, and his heart gave out. I remember when I first met him at your home and he climbed into my lap and that was it. He was home. Our big, sweet boy. How he loved to run and do a big wheelie and then run across the room and do another big round and around wheelie. If there were kids present, and they laughed, he would keep it up until we all were dizzy. It was our honor and pleasure to have spent all these years with him. Another piece of our hearts is gone. Our beautiful Al.

Lucas

Our wonderful greyhound of 11 years has left us tonight. He was 13. He lost all use of his rear legs. He had a long wonderful happy life with us. He will be missed.
