About Barts Wild Card

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Color: Red Brindle

Barts Wild Card is a very pretty little girl with the cutest little face.  She is very happy and friendly with a tail that never stops wagging. She's a confident girl who walks easily on leash.  She's curious about the things around her and is very interactive with the people around her.  She's a real leaner and smiles when leaning--how cute.  Some of the volunteers referred to her as a "happy pocket greyhound" since she is so little and happy. Wild Card is 3 years old and cat tolerant with supervision.

FOSTER
UPDATE 4/5/15:

Wild Card “Carly” has quickly settled into her foster home and has won our hearts with her happy, endearing personality. The first thing she does when getting up in the morning is give a little hop, tail rapidly wagging, and lean against my legs for a few moments.  Then she’s ready to go outside and do her business.
Housetraining has gone well with no accidents.  Carly easily mastered the stairs and goes up and down like a champ.  She is interested in whatever is going on in the house, especially the kitchen, and also enjoys gazing out the windows at activity in the neighborhood.  She likes playing with stuffed toys and her tennis ball.  But she’s not at all overactive; like most greyhounds, she’s an expert napper.  She’s fine with being crated when required.

Carly is outgoing but not pushy.  She readily greets new people. She hasn't shown fear of anything and is unperturbed by loud noises, the vacuum cleaner, etc.  She avoids our cat, and enjoyed meeting a little dog in the neighborhood, which suggests that she will probably be fine with other household pets.  Her leash manners are excellent and it’s a pleasure to take her for walks.

Carly is very food-motivated (although not food-aggressive), which is good for training, but she will counter-surf if there’s something tasty there.  We are working to discourage this behavior.  We are also teaching her to leave the kitchen on command as she gets underfoot when we are fixing meals.  She has learned this surprisingly well after just a few days.

Overall, Carly is smart, affectionate and very adaptable.  We will learn more about her as we continue to work on training and carefully exposing her to lots of new situations, people and other dogs, but so far she would seem to be a great addition to any family.
