Venomous--what a name for such a sweet, happy and handsome boy. He's very friendly and nothing seems to bother him. The volunteers described him as a "social butterfly"--very appropriate for this happy, interactive boy. He's not very big but is one of those "mooshie" boys. Venomos is 2 years old and cat tolerant with supervision.
Foster Update 6/27/2014
We nicknamed this gorgeous boy Vino because he reminds us of a favorite Italian wine - silky with smooth character and a hint of elegance. Born in August, 2012, our two year old foster absolutely loves life. He has been enjoying his days with our two greyhounds, playing in the yard with them some of the time, snoozing with them most of the time. He shares his foster home with three cats - two of those are active Bengals. So far, Vino keeps his distance as the cats seem to scare him. There are also two dog-friendly children in the home, ages 8 and 12; he recognizes them as "pack leaders."
He is a playful hound, though not overbearing. Vino has had no accidents in the house. During the day we work full-time and the kids are at day camp; Vino is crated during this time. He has done well in the crate. At night, he sleeps on a dog bed next to our bed. He has mastered the stairs, as well as our wood, laminate and tile flooring. He also travels in the car well.
Vino is working on his leash skills and we are helping him to become an expert at it. He has exhibited some fear of strangers, though not all. However, he did come close to backing out of his martingale collar when a stranger approached him. That said, and until Vino gains a stronger comfort level with new settings and with strangers, a fenced yard may be an ideal fit for him. That's not to say he lacks confidence. In general, he is comfortable in his own skin and often explores the yard and our home on his own. He is also a fast learner, adjusting to the routine of our family and home quite quickly. While he is not an alpha, we feel he could do well as an "only dog" or in a home with one or more other dogs.
Vino is a very happy hound. He's sweet and mushy - he loves giving and getting affection; truly, he has a joyous spirit. He has impressed us with his go-with-the-flow personality and openness to quickly adjust to a brand new environment. He will immediately see his future adopter as the alpha and will take cues in eager fashion. Vino is a loving boy who will dedicate himself to the lucky home that he will call his own.
