About Harlow Island

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Color: Black

Harlow Island is a very pretty girl who is calm and friendly.  She's happy and curious but not overly pushy.  She's playful and seems to be very adaptable to new situations.  Harlow Island is 4 years old and cat workable in that she could be directed away from the cat but was curious.
Foster Update 3/3/2014

Not only is Harlow Island a gorgeous shiny black girl, she has a personality to match. Harlow came to us to foster from the Prison Program where I was told she was a favorite. Now I know why. She is so super sweet, friendly and has good manners. She is very calm and happy and she’ll let you know by chittering her teeth. She can be playful, but not in an overbearing way. She just like to toss toys in the air and watch them fly.

She’s an affectionate dog who loves to be pet and lie on a dog bed in the same room as the family or other pets. She has been a good girl and has been sleeping completely through the night. She will let you know she has to go out, usually when she arises from a long nap. She likes nothing more than to be next to you snuggling or having some sort of contact with you. Or at least to be in the same room as you. She gets along fabulously with both of my dogs and is still a little curious about my cats, but nothing that cannot be corrected.

She has a good appetite and shows no food aggression and she knows how to gently take treats from your hands and patiently waits for another one. She hasn’t show any inclination of counter surfing, but I am always in the kitchen with her when she is in there. I don’t want her to get hurt or get into something she shouldn’t get into. She has entertained us with her "blanket" habits in that she loves to paw at them pulling them into a big ball and flopping down on the ball of blankets with a huge sigh or moan. She also has "many" ear looks. Sometimes up, sometimes down, sometimes one up or folded over. We did crate her and she did just fine. She walks nicely on a leash too, never ever pulling. She fit right into our home within the first 24 hours. She is a pure delight to foster and will bring much happiness, warmth and love to any home.
