Kells Destiny is a stunning brindle girl who just completed a semester at Becker College in Leicester,Massachusetts as a cherished friend and valued "teaching animal" for select students in the Animal Studies program working one-on-one with a student trainer for the entire semester. The students learn to train the dogs using clicker training. Their student trainers build the greyhounds' confidence and learn to train while instilling the greys with a skill set that will aid them in their new challenge of "life as a pet." The dogs also have the opportunity to work with the students in a "home setting".
According to her student trainer and supervisor: "Destiny is a quiet little houseguest! She rarely jumps up on people or gets excited during busy times – she is very well-adjusted and easily handled by students of all experience levels. Destiny does love her bed and can be found lounging in it all day – in fact, when we come to take her out for a walk, she will usually roll over on her side and stretch out her paws with her eyes closed in polite and adorable refusal! It can be tough to get Destiny out of bed when she doesn’t want to go, especially later in the evening or in bad weather (and who could blame her??). Once she’s out of bed, she may even stall a bit with big long stretches. Because she takes some convincing, the happy-toned pleas of her handlers sometimes cause Destiny’s neighbor dogs to bark (like they’re saying ‘What’s wrong? Get going!’) and this makes Destiny more resistant to leaving her kennel and walking by them. We usually tried to keep a cookie or two in our pocket to reward her with a surprise and keep her motivated once she was up and moving. In general, Destiny is just a mild-mannered girl and she doesn’t want to cause a fuss – calm gentle handling without any force or pressure keeps her happy and ready to go!"
Destiny is 3 years old cat workable to tolerant with supervision.
Foster Update 12/21/2013
Just when you think you've seen all the cute Greyhound tricks, you get a new foster with a special surprise of her own. Destiny's little quirk is her funny way of sitting (like a fat cat grooming) that just makes me laugh.
Besides being smart and beautiful, she's also affectionate and inquisitive. We love having her as part of our family (2 humans, 2 Greys) and she has settled into our routine very well. She comes for cuddles when she wants attention, sleeps through the night and loves going for a walk.
