About Darby

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Color: White and Fawn

At first glance, this pint-sized princess looks a little too small to take on the world.  But don’t let that fool you – Darby certainly has the heart to go the distance!  Darby can be shy about the hustle and bustle of society, and feeling safe and secure is very important to her.  A gentle and courteous girl, she makes no intentional effort to stand out in a crowd, but still her sparkling little spirit shines through.   Her bright smile takes over her tiny face, her short tail wags with delight and she bounces around in a happy dance!  Darby certainly knows who loves and cares for her, and she is bigger, braver and brighter in their company.  Above all, Darby sees the value in love and companionship.  She is truly one-of-a-kind and everyone who knows her feels that she was custom-made for someone very special.

After the completion of her racing career, from January to May 2013, Darby was enrolled in a teaching program at Becker College, where she helped students learn the fine art of responsible animal care.  She has done a great service for the community by helping the animal professionals of tomorrow learn to be compassionate and capable in their field of study.  She is 3 years old, spayed and microchipped.  She has had a dental cleaning and is up to date on her vaccines, heartworm and flea and tick protection.  Darby has also been introduced to clicker training, and has had some experience in a "real-life" apartment which has helped her become familiar with the skills she will need in her new life as a beloved pet.  Please consider meeting her if you are looking for a dear and devoted friend!

Darby is cat tolerant with supervision.
Foster Update

Just wanted to let you know Darby is settling in well and starting to relax.  She and my gang have been great together from the start and she really enjoys romping with them in the yard.  Took her a little while to warm up to me enough to approach on her own, she would get a foot away and watch and I could tell she really wanted to get close to me.  Seeing my dogs interact with me I think was an important step in her trusting me.  She may be a dog that because she is a little shy will do best in a home with another grey that is settled in.  She also is a little jumpy with new noises and sounds and sudden movements but I think she will get better with that, voices on the TV completely confused her at first.
She is very sweet, quiet and has been so great in the house, picking up the routine quickly and went to the door last night when she had to go out
