Adoption PendingHe Not Big Poppy is a strikingly handsome boy who is friendly and outgoing but polite. He was happy to interact with all of the volunteers who were with him. To top it off, this sweet, sweet boy gives kisses--how cute. He walks nicely on leash. Cat tolerant with supervision. Poppy is 2 years old.
Update Sept. 30, 2009
Poppy was able to leave the prison for a few hours last Saturday to meet & greet at the Clinton Walmart. The volunteer who had charge of Poppy for the afternoon really enjoyed his sweet nature and noticed small things about him that were very touching (besides the fact he enjoyed his rides in the car, immediately flopping down on a cushion, black and white legs waving in the air! How funny that must have looked to anyone driving by!)
One of the things that the volunteer noticed was that Poppy seemed to make a connection with children. He would walk right up to them, curious but gentle. What an ideal behavior for a dog with humans who are low to the ground! When people paid attention to him and pet him, if he saw them again he would head back to them as if to say "Are you my Mommy/Daddy?" It was very endearing. Poppy was friendly, a bit on the reserved side in this busy first-time social situation.
Although we're not sure if he enjoyed the atmosphere, he was a very good boy, and everyone enjoyed meeting him. Poppy also liked his short exercise walks and was happy exploring grass and trees or the parking lot, just happily curious about his surroundings. Toward the end of the meet & greet, he laid down on one of the comforters and closed his eyes, tired from the excitement and content to rest next to the GFNJ volunteer.
What a sweet, nice boy. (And drop-dead gorgeous to boot!)
