Leyla is a sweet girl who is just striking in appearance. She is friendly but reserved at first and needs some time to get acquainted and to feel safe. She was in a foster home for about a year in Oman waiting to be able to travel to GFNJ. Her foster mom in Oman loved her but felt it best for Lelya to get a home in the USA. We are so happy and grateful to have her in our family. Due to the higher cost of transportation from Oman to the USA, the adoption free for Leyla is $500.
Foster Update 4/12/2021
Introducing my foster dog Leyla! She is a Wadi Dog: The Omani Wadi dog is specific to this region. Originally descended from Salukis, the breed eventually mixed with many other breeds of abandoned dogs and is now its own unique type. This type of dog is extremely clever, loyal and loving. Leyla was rescued from the streets of Oman by my friend Ancilla and Muscat Dog Adoption. Leyla spent the first 2 years of her life living on the streets of Oman, and for the past year and a half she has been living with Ancilla in Oman with two other dogs while awaiting her flight to the US, which was canceled multiple times due to COVID shutdowns.
Leyla has been with me for 10 days now after traveling a long way from Oman. Leyla is very smart and adaptable and she has adjusted very well to the routines of my home. She is not being crated and has had no accidents. She likes to be in charge and wants to be the princess of the house. I believe she would do best in a home with 1 other dog, or as an only dog. She loves to lounge in my fenced backyard and loves long walks with my 3 greyhounds! She is very gentle and not a high energy dog. As a matter of fact, she's happy to sleep on the couch for a lot of the day. She is a peaceful dog and looking for her forever couch! Leyla is 3 1/2 years old and about 42 pounds in weight.
