About Bert

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Color: Tri-color

Bert, who is about 8 or 9 years old was recently relinquished as he just did not get along with one family member. He was great with every other person that he met--go figure. The adopter herself was very sad to have to give him up because he is such a good boy and sweet.  He has been in the home about 5 months. He does take Rimadyl for his hips. He is now heartworm negative and has no restrictions other than getting heartworm prevenative every month, just like we recommend for any dog. If you are interested in giving Bert his forever home, please contact Linda at 732-356-4370.

Original Posting

Bert is a very sweet, older gentleman shepherd mix. He was in a high kill shelter in North Carolina having been turned into the shelter. He had less than a day left when GFNJ was asked to rescue him. How could we say "no"--at about 8 years old, Bert needs to be taken care of and loved. He came to us several months ago and he was heartworm positive. He has had the treatment and still has to be leash walked only for several more months when he will be tested again. He is ready for adoption to someone who will leash walk him, and we will take care of his final heartworm testing. He will need to be on heartworm preventative the rest of his life which really any dog should be treated this way. Bert came to us very depressed and downtrodden. He is in our Prison Foster Program and he has blossomed into a happy, relaxed boy who is sweet and gets along with everyone. Won't you consider giving this gentleman a second chance at a comfy bed? Because of his age, his adoption fee is reduced to $150.
