About Brewski "Boris"

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Color: White

This write up is a bit unique in that our family didn’t foster Brewski (Boris); we adopted him. After a few weeks, we sadly made the decision to return him to GFNJ because he became too keen on our cats. Whoever adopts him will be welcoming a beautiful sprit into his or her home.

Boris is an incredible boy––and he’s gorgeous!  He was born August 6, 2015 and loves life. In our home, he got along fabulously with our 10 year old greyhound and our teenaged sons, ages 13 and 17.  As for his physicality, Boris is a big boy––and, generally, the bigger the mooshier. He loves to love and seeks out affection. He will be your loyal shadow and will enjoy spending his time with you.  Here’s what else you need to know about this very special greyhound:

  • Highly affectionate.
  • Super curious––he loves to explore and wants to know all about you and his surroundings.
  • Sleeps through the night; Boris slept in our room on a dog bed.
  • Eats well; has shown no food aggression.
  • Demonstrated no space aggression. Our 2-year-old greyhound used Boris as a pillow to lay his head on. At the same time, Boris doesn’t recognize the personal space of our dogs. So, keep in mind, if you have another dog or dogs, that Boris has been seen getting on a dog bed with another dog or walking over another sleeping dog.
  • Travels well in the car.
  • Walks beautifully on a leash.
  • Has mastered the stairs and all the wood/tile/laminate flooring in our home.
  • Will make a fantastic “ambassadog”––he is super sociable.
  • Wants to please his people. In fact, he seems to live for it.
  • Loves, loves, loves squeaky toys—he needs rugged ones, preferably without stuffing. He is a chewer. Boris especially loves the extra-large Kong with treats in it––and it seems to stand up to him well.

Here’s what Boris is working on:

  • Boris took a few obedience classes and responded really well to clicker training. He learned “leave it,” but keep in mind that is with objects, not cats, small dogs, or other animals. He has a very strong prey drive and should not be unmuzzled or off leash when small animals are present.
  • He has been learning not to “counter surf” (jumping up on the kitchen counters). He took commands very well.

Boris will do well in a home without small children because of his size and he can be a “bull in a China shop.” He also needs a strong leader and could truly benefit from experiencing a full basic obedience class. He loves to please and craves direction form the people he lives with. Boris was very loved in our home and we continue to love him from afar. It broke our hearts to say good-bye to him, but he would not have been happy had he stayed with us. He deserves to be in cat-free home. Know that, if you adopt Boris, you will be getting a dog that will devote himself to you and he’ll love you like crazy for the rest of his life

ORIGINAL POSTING

HL's Brewski is a big, handsome "mooshie" boy. The volunteers described him as "Mr. Affectionate"!! He is sweet, friendly and a happy boy. He might be a big, huggable lap dog-lol. Brewski is curious about his new surroundings. He settles into a nice leash walk. Brewski turned 3 years old in August and although he loves people, no cats, please.
